About The Competition

UNLOCK JAPAN (UJ) features all things Japanese from cultures, travels, food and represents adventures and opportunities. Through this competition, we hope the world has a better understanding of how special and beautiful Japan is and what it has to offer. The competition is open to everyone in Asia. Entrants stand a chance to win prizes up to US$500. Outstanding submissions will be featured in our magazine. To participate, craft your articles based on the themes below and submit no later than 1 September 2018. Enter now! Don’t miss out on the chance to win!

Themes

FOOD

FOOD Japanese food culture includes the cuisine and agriculture. Apart from the globally-loved sushi and takoyaki, discovering food in Japan is an adventure by itself, from the cuisines and crops in each of Japan’s prefectures (of which there are 47 in total) to the harvest and food of the four seasons. Delve, discover and deliver to us what you find unique about the Japanese food culture.

TRAVEL

Every geographical nook and cranny of a country tells beautiful stories about the place itself, its history, and the events that take place there. Delve, discover and deliver to us the beauty and uniqueness of the Japanese landscape. There are so many beautiful places, event, and traditions in Japan. Each place has different culture or magnificence. Discover the uniqueness of Travel in Japan.

Judging Criteria

Submission will be judged based on these criterias:

Structure

Overall quality of the writing including spelling, grammar, and ease of understanding

Compliance

Theme-appropriate, the credibility of the description

Creativity

Unique, different from the other entries

Terms and Conditions

Submit your article and a summary in PDF format.
Kindly use font family Arial, size 12 points with double-spacing.
Write the theme you are submitting to in the header of the page.
The filename should include the theme you are submitting to and your fullname (ex:Fullname_Travel.pdf) Please do not submit files that are labelled ‘my article’ or other generic titles.
Must submit your article and a summary of the article.
The article must be written not more than 2000 words.
The summary of the article must be written not more than 300 words.
Online submissions only. All submissions are to be made through our Submittable portal.
Email and postal submissions will not be accepted.
Entries must be entirely your own work.
Entries must not have been previously published in print or online.All submissions are final and no changes can be made once they have been submitted.
Outstanding entries might be edited to prepare them for publication.
